Rosa Danica

Hi! My name is Torben Moth Madsen and I’ve loved working with plants my whole life.

Rieke Blumen

Rosa Danica A/S is a producer of flowering potted plants, located in Marslev, Denmark. Our company was founded in 1987, by my wife Lis and myself, as a small cucumber farm, with 2.400 m2. Since then, we have grown quite a bit and today we have 140.000 m2 of greenhouses, where we grow ornamental, flowering pot plants. We implement Integrated Pest Management, and by using mechanical stress we have managed to reduce the total usage of pesticides by 60-70%.

We have specilized in producing the following species: Rosa Hyb. Kordana® (6cm, 10cm, 12cm, 15cm), Rosa Hyb. RosAroma™ - Scented roses (10cm), Rosa. Hyb. the1rose™ (7 cm), Campanula Portenschlagiana Tendenza® (7cm, 10cm), Schlumbergera Hyb. Tendenza® (6cm, 9cm, 12cm, 14cm).

Strict standards for motivated staff

I have been working in horticulture all my life, and was literally “born” in a nursery. I am now 57 years old and still love working with plants and being among my motivated staff. Actually, we are very proud of our 117 staff members we employ on a permanent basis throughout the year – they are the core of the company and take care of all major tasks and operations in the company. We also employ up to 50 seasonal staff members in the spring. Our employees are very important to us, as they actually make our whole production possible – so we make sure that all of them are highly motivated and work according to the specific standards of our company. Rosa Danica strictly follows Danish law and regulations for workers’ safety, which are among the strictest in the world. We are constantly looking for improvements to our production that will result in higher efficiency, better genetics, and improved working conditions.

Rosa Danica

Maximum sustainable output with minimum input

In our company, we have always been focused on producing the highest quality plants with the minimum use of energy, water, and chemicals. In addition, we have focused on breeding and selecting only the best varieties, meaning that a sustainable way of growing already starts with the best genetics. Making plants grow provides great satisfaction and building customer relations has always been very important to me.

The ongoing challenge of sustainable development

At Rosa Danica we challenge ourselves every day to find new, more efficient, and sustainable growing methods. This has resulted in a small R&D BIO department, which is authorized for bio/eco farming according to Danish law. We have now been GLOBALG.A.P. certified since 2017 and actually managed to fulfil most of the required criteria through procedures that already existed in our company. However, as we were repeatedly asked about certification, we saw GLOBALG.A.P. Certification as a great formal confirmation for our commitment to sustainable development.
